Homeschool High School Diplomas and How to Get One

Are you a homeschooling mom with a senior who is graduating this year?  Or are you a considering homeschooling her teen for the first time?

Homeschoolers can earn their own high school diploma, and you as the parents get to determine the requirements for them to earn that.

It is a good idea to just check with your state homeschool association, as there are a few states that do have homeschool graduation requirements. Only 2 though, the last time I checked.

What about graduation requirements?

We don't have to follow the public school graduation requirements, but we can if we want to do so.

Homeschooled teens need to complete whatever requirements you set as their homeschooling parents.

So when it's graduation time, you can present them with their own diploma. Below are some options if you are like me, and don't want to create your own.

Homeschool Diploma Resources

1. ETSY offers Personalized Homeschool High School Diplomas by Pixi that are editable.

When you click on the link above, it takes you to my favorite diploma template, which is quite frugal.

Be sure and choose a name for your school that sounds official, but enjoy the process.

I could not get a picture of it, due to special copyright restrictions on this one, so I am sharing another, so you get the idea of what it might look like.

2. Etsy has other types of diplomas

There are many other stores on Etsy that offer diplomas. Check them out here - Etsy Homeschool Diplomas.

That link above takes you to a number of options and also to the one pictured  below.

3.  Homeschool Diplomas

This company helps you make your own personalized diploma.

They also offer diploma covers, cap and gowns, announcements, class rings, and gifts. Below is a sample of one of their samples.

Their standard diploma presents the crucial information in a classic way.

Homeschool Diplomas is a family owned company which has homeschooled their two children.  In the beginning they made all of their diplomas by hand.

4.  What is the purpose of a homeschool diploma?

Having a homeschool diploma was a very special part of our teen's graduation celebration.  It symbolized all the hard work that she did throughout her high school years.

Whenever someone asked her "Do you have a high school diploma?"  She could answer yes!  She had a high school diploma.  They didn't ask if it was a homeschool diploma or a public school one.

If vocational schools or employers ask for a high school diploma, you can explain that your teen was homeschooled and can send them a copy, if they ask.

Did you know that colleges are now used to getting homeschool applicants? After helping our daughter get into college, I put all my best tips into a book.

It's a great place to start if you are new to homeschooling high school OR if you are wondering about college.
